Local Youth Attend GROWMARK's Annual Meeting

KITCHENER, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 6, 2009) - Bruce Betzner of the Lynden area recently attended the 2009 GROWMARK, Inc. Annual Meeting in Chicago as this year's youth speaker representative. He is one of two young people chosen from the Ontario Co-operative Association Co-operative Young Leaders Program (CYL) to attend the three-day event. Ed Sauve of Woodslee was the other youth from CYL chosen to attend.

Nineteen year old Betzner spoke to more than 1,000 people about his views on the value of good leadership. Prior to this opportunity, Betzner facilitated at CYL after graduating from the program two years ago. "I am grateful for being given the opportunity to attend and speak at the GROWMARK Annual Meeting in Chicago. It was clear at the meeting that GROWMARK puts a lot of emphasis on youth and their future development," says Betzner.

Bruce Betzner was sponsored to attend CYL camp by FS PARTNERS, a division of GROWMARK, Inc. and Ed Sauve by AGRIS Co-opertive Ltd. Attending camp gives young people like Sauve and Betzner the opportunity to learn about co-operatives and build strong leadership skills through their roles as a facilitator or camp participant.

Each year GROWMARK provides travel opportunities to six exemplary youth who have shown dedication to Ontario youth development. They travel to Chicago to learn more about GROWMARK and network with business people and other young leaders. As part of their experience, CYL representatives along with other Ontario youth from Junior Farmers' Association of Ontario and 4-H Ontario participated in the annual meeting's grand opening ceremonies and had the opportunity to visit the Chicago Board of Trade, sponsored by AGRIS Co-operative.
