London Firefighters to Lobby LFEPA Meeting

LONDON, ENGLAND--(Marketwire - June 23, 2010) - There will be a less efficient firefighting service in London at night if the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority (LFEPA) introduces its proposed shift patterns, a protest lobby tomorrow (24 June) at London Fire Brigade headquarters will be told.

"We know that the proposed 12-hours-on 12-hours-off shift patterns are a prelude to cutting nighttime fire cover" said Fire Brigades Union general secretary Matt Wrack.

"We are not going to allow the London Fire Brigade to impose these changes and pretend it is modernisation" said London's FBU executive member Ian Leahair.

The protest will begin at 12.30pm at London Fire Brigade headquarters, 169 Union Street, London SE1 0LL. Platform speakers will include the FBU's general secretary, Matt Wrack, and Labour MP John Cryer.
