Longview 7 Expands Performance Management Footprint With Enhanced Usability and Data Visualization Capabilities

Service Oriented Architecture and Platform Renovation Streamline Application Support Requirements

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 2, 2009) - Longview Solutions, a leader in Corporate Performance Management (CPM) software today announced the availability of Longview 7, a major new release of its industry-leading CPM software application, which many of the world's most respected companies have been using since 1994 to drive business performance with speed, visibility and financial integrity.

"The previous release, Khalix V3, has served customers very well," claims John Power, President of Longview Solutions, a division of Exact Software. "However, the additional experience we've gained from Khalix over the past few years, combined with requirements gathered through research, the analyst community and our diverse customer base, has enabled us to introduce significant improvements with the release of Longview 7."

The improvements Power speaks of include the 'renovation' of the platform's architecture, as well as a number of architectural enhancements, including the move to Services Oriented Architecture (SOA), substantial gains in usability and notable advancements in data visualization.

Usability and Data Visualization

The Longview 7 user interface (UI) for both end users and system administrators has been completely redesigned according to Microsoft standards making it more intuitive, and "self-service" oriented (visit www.longview.com/longview7 to see a sample of new Longview 7 user screens). In addition, the intuitive UI coupled with the segregated administration capabilities make it possible to selectively and securely distribute the administrative workload across multiple individuals in different geographies- a key consideration for both productivity and efficiency at the enterprise level.

"In our annual BPM Pulse Survey of end-user organizations, Longview, one of the core CPM vendors, routinely gets top marks, but UI is one area where there has been a need for improvement," says John Colbert, Vice-President at BPM Partners, a privately held advisory services firm with an exclusive focus on performance management solutions. "We're excited and pleased with the dramatic improvements that have been made not only to the Longview 7 UI, but to the end user experience as a whole."

Data visualization enhancements in Longview 7 manifest themselves primarily in the product's advanced dashboarding capabilities. With Longview 7, data visualization is role-based and 'drillable', right down to the originating source transaction for each individual piece of information. Depending on a user's role in the organization, dashboards can be customized to give different views of the same data. Access is protected by security profiles so users only access data they are authorized to see.

"Management dashboards are fast becoming a strategic management tool as executives become accustomed to using them as a basis for decision-making - one picture to monitor, measure and manage their businesses," states Power.

Service Oriented Architecture

Longview 7 SOA makes it easier and faster for customers to build, deploy and orchestrate business processes, and improves the interoperability of the Longview application with third-party transaction-based operational systems, such as Oracle Applications, SAP R/3, JD Edwards, and PeopleSoft, to name a few. Using Web-based technology, Longview's SOA provides a new way to deliver rich business functionality to end users, especially workflow and collaboration capabilities.

"With SOA, Longview 7 gives organizations a way to link together previously fragmented business processes and data, resulting in a more complete view of business operations and a better chance to discover opportunities for innovation and growth," exclaims Power.

Architectural Renovation Covers Entire Feature Set

An extended list of enhancements in Longview 7 covers virtually every aspect of the product's architecture, design and configuration environment, including, amongst many others;

- Increased dimensionality, symbols and size for all data elements

- Increased flexibility in naming standards

- Fully optimized in-memory multi-dimensional modeling engine

- Out of the box utility to compare multiple hierarchies and report on differences

- Simplified and enhanced administration capabilities including extensive search, expanded import/export capabilities, multiple environment management, and numerous others

Convenient Migration & Support Roadmap

Longview 7 makes migration easy and practical for those wishing to upgrade from previous releases, while ensuring uninterrupted ongoing support for those who wish to continue on the 3.X platform.

For existing customers, Longview 7 is backwards compatible with existing business logic, so logic tables and configuration items will be preserved as they are migrated to the new environment, thus minimizing the impact within an organization and the amount of retraining required.

For Longview customers with an existing software maintenance and support contract, there is no charge for Longview 7 software licensing. For customers remaining on the current Version 3 platform, full support will continue until the next major release of the product is introduced to the market - likely in the 4-5 year timeframe.
