Luxury Institute Survey: High Net Worth Consumers Rank the Top Three Premium Cognacs -- Courvoisier, Grand Marnier and Remy Martin

NEW YORK, NY -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 5, 2006 -- Courvoisier is the leading premium cognac brand according to the 2007 Luxury Institute Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey. Courvoisier is the top-ranked brand among the six tested in terms of overall LBSI. The brand scores significantly above the benchmark in three of four components of LBSI: consistently superior quality, consumption by those who are admired and respected, and making consumers feel special. Those who are familiar deemed it most worthy of a price premium and the brand they are most willing to refer to those they care about most. Common reasons wealthy consumers are willing to recommend this brand over other cognacs are the brand's reputation as "the best," its superior quality, and the social status it imparts. Grand Marnier is the second highest rated brand in terms of overall LBSI. The brand is top-rated for being unique and exclusive, and scores significantly above the benchmark for overall LBSI on three of the four component indices. The brand also scores significantly above the benchmark for both outcome metrics and is the brand with the strongest perceived improvement in stature as a premier brand. Remy Martin ranks third overall.

Six premium Cognac brands were rated including: Alize, Courvoisier, Grand Marnier, Hennessy, Martell, and Remy Martin.

A nationally representative sample of 1,200 wealthy consumers, who have consumed or purchased alcoholic beverages in the past six months, was surveyed online. Respondents had an average household income of $340k and average net worth of $2.7m. Survey results are weighted to match the demographic and net worth profile of the same audience according to the latest Survey of Consumer Finances from the Federal Reserve.
