Luxury Institute Survey: High Net-Worth Consumers Rate Dom Perignon the Most Prestigious Champagne

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - January 15, 2008) - High net-worth consumers rated Dom Perignon the most prestigious champagne and sparkling wine in the 2008 Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey from the independent New York-based Luxury Institute (www.LuxuryInstitute.com). Respondents who would recommend Dom Perignon say it is "timeless," is for "momentous and special occasions," and of "superior quality."

"No other beverage delivers timeless luxury heritage, quality and exclusivity like Champagne," said Milton Pedraza, CEO of the Luxury Institute. "Yet when it comes to rating the best of the best, we still live in the medieval era of so-called 'expert' raters."

"Our philosophy is that luxury consumers, as highly educated and discerning individuals who vote their pocketbooks, should rate the hierarchy of luxury brand status in every category," Pedraza added. "Our impartial surveys capture the 'voice of the high net-worth consumer' with independent, unbiased panels, and with results tabulated by independent, analytical experts. We strive continuously to reinforce the trust that allows us to facilitate a constructive dialogue between wealthy consumers and the luxury brands that wish to serve them."

Following are the 19 premium wine brands that were rated (alphabetical order):

  1. Bollinger 11. Laurent Perrier
  2. Cristal 12. Louis Roederer
  3. Dom Perignon 13. Moet & Chandon
  4. Domaine Chandon 14. Nicholas Feuillatte
  5. Domaine Ste. Michel 15. Perrier Jouet
  6. Etoile 16. Piper Heidsieck
  7. GH Mumm 17. Schramsberg
  8. J 18. Taittinger

The proprietary Luxury Brand Status Index (LBSI) survey is the only measure of the prestige of leading brands among wealthy Americans. A national sample of 1,760 wealthy American consumers, all of whom consumed alcoholic beverages in the past six months, with an average income of $346K and average net worth of $3.8 million, was surveyed online. Survey results are weighted to match demographic and net-worth profiles of the same audience according to the latest Survey of Consumer Finances from The Federal Reserve.
