MADD Canada's ‘very pleased' with Ontario Government's Legislation

MADD Canada’s CEO: “This will strengthen the Graduated License Program and save the lives of many young drivers.”

Attention: News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor TORONTO, ONTARIO --(Marketwire - Nov. 18, 2008) - Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD Canada) applauded the Ontario Government's advance of legislation designed to stop young drivers from drinking and driving.

Andrew Murie, MADD Canada's CEO, states: "The Ontario Government has taken some very important steps today. This new legislation will strengthen the province's graduated licensing program and save many young drivers who are being killed on our roads as a result of impaired driving."

The CEO remarked that Ontario Ministry of Transportation officials had been in discussions with the organization for months about changes to graduated licenses. He explained that MADD Canada has an on-going dialogue with Ontario officials as part of MADD's on-going policy initiative Rating the Provinces. Mr. Murie stated: "Many of these measures are taken from the pages of our document, which does a good job detailing the country's best practices. I am happy to report that, today, Ontario becomes one the country's standard bearers for the most effective graduated licensing programs."
