MEDIA ADVISORY: Canada's First Crowd Funded Private Equity Corporation Launches in Calgary

PODIUM Participation Funds introduces Capital Democracy

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - April 22, 2010) -

WHAT: PODIUM Participation Funds (PODIUM), a crowd sourced investment platform that uses an online voting system to help finance and manage local ventures with global potential, is launching in Calgary. The concept is similar to Dragon's Den meets Facebook, but rather than a handful of judges and investors, PODIUM is inviting the entire Calgary community and beyond to contribute.

PODIUM provides a new way to invest through an innovative social network platform. PODIUM uses local $5,000 investments (TFSA and RRSP eligible) and pools those funds to invest in local ventures.

PHOTO OPP: PODIUM founders will unveil the company's online investment platform and give a short presentation at 6:00 p.m. Guests, including local business ventures and potential shareholders, will network as well as get the chance to test out the platform in real time at wireless computer stations.

WHEN: Wednesday, April 28, 2010
  5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Media are requested to arrive between 5:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

WHERE: Flames Central, 219 Stephen Avenue Mall

WHY: According to a February 2010 study prepared for BMO Financial Group, only one third of Canadians reported having a financial plan; nearly 20 per cent of Canadians have no idea what's in their portfolios, and of those who know what investments they hold, 58 per cent think they are not on the right track.

Not only does PODIUM provide ownership for shareholders in their investments, they also provide a platform for Calgarians to take part in private equity through a $5,000 investment. Each shareholder contributes the same amount of money, has an equal opportunity to influence which businesses PODIUM invests in, and would share equally in any profits.

  Now that's something to celebrate.
