MEDIA ADVISORY: Copper Thunderbird-The Art of Norval Morrisseau

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Jan. 25, 2010) -

WHAT: Elmwood Spa is proud to announce 'Copper Thunderbird – The Art of Norval Morrisseau,' an exhibition of a private collection of over 40 paintings never before exhibited publicly together. The exhibition provides an overview of this Canadian national treasure's work, spanning over four decades, and including a number of his masterpieces. The Copper Thunderbird exhibition at Elmwood Spa supports the YWCA Elm Centre, which will provide 300 new affordable and supportive homes for single women, women-led families and Aboriginal families in 2011.

WHO: Elmwood Spa houses a small permanent collection of Canadian, American and Thai artists, believing that art is an important part of the relaxation experience. Copper Thunderbird follows exhibitions of paintings by artists Catharine Somerville in 2008 and Charles Pachter in 2009. Spa guests are encouraged to contemplate the beauty of the art as they attend to their physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

WHEN: The exhibition opens on Tuesday January 26th, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.

WHERE: The exhibition will be held at Elmwood Spa, 18 Elm Street, Toronto.

CONTACT: The Morrisseau family will be available on January 26th for select interviews to discuss their father's legacy, the establishment of the Morrisseau Family Foundation, and the works appearing in the exhibition.
