MOTHER'S DAY

A TIMELESS TRADITION

Attention: Business/Financial Editor, Food/Beverage Editor, News Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - May 5, 2010) - Mother's Day has a rich history dating back hundreds of years possibly to Roman times when presents were given to mothers on a day celebrating their god, Juno. Over a century ago a movement started in the United States to make Mother's day the second Sunday of May. Today dozens of countries around the world celebrate mother's day on the second Sunday of May. In Ontario moms are greeted with everything from breakfast in bed to surprise gifts and pledges of better behaviour.

The ORHMA or the Ontario Restaurant Hotel and Motel Association represents the thousands of establishments across Ontario ready to help you make Mother's Day fun filled and special.

On May 9th we collectively celebrate Mother's Day. While some tie this day to Christian rituals dating back centuries, it exists today as a way to say thank you to mother's for all that they do to make life wonderful. Together we can reinforce the special qualities of this day by doing what we can to make our mothers feel special on Mother's Day and carry that feeling forward on the other days of the year.

ORHMA is reminding all Ontarians to make sure their plans are in place for this Mother's Day. Sunday brunches are very popular on Mother's Day. Alternatively, you can create a fun dinner out or get away with friends to a hotel for the night. Make your plans today to avoid disappointment as your favourite place to dine may be too full if you wait until the last minute. If you are looking for ideas to make the event special, ask the restaurant manager for suggestions. Remember, if you have planned to tie in another occasion or two speak to the staff ahead of time to help make your event all the more fun.

Without question, the accommodations and restaurant sector of our economy has been very hard hit by the recent recession. It is said that we are the first into a recession and the last out. ORHMA represents over 11,000 establishments across Ontario employing thousands of workers.

So make this Mother's Day the best yet and help out Ontario's economic recovery at same time. Make brunch, dinner or hotel reservations today.

ORHMA dates back to the early 1920s with a proud history of serving the accommodations and restaurant sector of Ontario for several decades. As the industry voice for the discerning Ontario restaurant, hotel or motel, the ORHMA represents 4,000 members.
