MPX: IBAMA Grants Preliminary License for MPX Sul TPP

License Attests to Environmental Feasibility of a 600 MW Coal-Fired Plant

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL--(Marketwire - November 12, 2009) - MPX Energia S.A. (BOVESPA: MPXE3), informs that the Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (IBAMA) granted the Preliminary License ("LP") for the MPX Sul TPP project ("MPX Sul"). The LP attests to the environmental feasibility of the project, which foresees the development of a 600 MW coal-fired plant in Candiota, State of Rio Grande do Sul.

The Seival mine ("mine"), in which MPX holds a 70% stake, will supply coal to MPX Sul. The mine is located alongside the area where MPX Sul will be built, has proven reserves of 152 million tons of coal and total resources of 459 million tons.

The LP is an important milestone to MPX Sul as it enables the sale of electricity in the regulated and/or the free market.

Thus, MPX further strengthens its competitiveness in the Brazilian Power sector with a unique and integrated portfolio of projects, fueled by diverse sources.
