Wednesday, June 13, 2007; 1:45 - 2:30 p.m. EDT

Wireless Communications Association 2007 Summer Convention
Omni Shoreham Hotel, Washington, DC
The Scoop:

Emerging hybrid mobile satellite and terrestrial cellular networks offer new market opportunities for service providers looking to offer better geographic coverage and business models driven by mobile broadband applications and services. Together with strategic partners, Mobile Satellite Ventures plans to deploy a 4G wireless broadband network across North America, using an all-Internet Protocol open architecture over a standard terrestrial cellular footprint. The cornerstone of this integrated network will be MSV's two powerful mobile satellites, planned for launch into geostationary orbit in 2009 and 2010. This session highlights how MSV's planned network will offer hybrid satellite/terrestrial cellular networks with higher data speeds and flexibility to support a range of IP applications and services. MSV's planned network, in contrast to legacy networks operated by incumbent providers, will allow distribution and other strategic partners to have open network access to create a variety of custom applications and services for consumers.

Vijay Venkateswaran is Vice President of Services Development and Management at MSV where he is responsible for managing the development of MSV's Next Generation MSS and ATC (Ancillary Terrestrial Component) network products and services. Prior to joining MSV, Mr. Venkateswaran was Director of New Value Added Product and Services Development for Verizon's Broadband Solutions Group. In this role, he was responsible for creating and executing Verizon's broadband strategy, product development and management for new digital value-added services. Prior to joining Verizon, Venkateswaran was a Senior Manager at Accenture (formerly Andersen Consulting), serving in the Communications and High Technology Strategy Practice. Mr. Venkateswaran holds a Masters of Business Administration from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia, and a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
