Madoc Co-op and County Farm Centre Form Business Alliance

MADOC, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 17, 2008) - A letter of intent was signed on Oct. 10 forming a new business alliance that will shift Madoc Co-operative Association's crop input business to County Farm Centre Ltd. at the end of the month.

County Farm Centre Ltd. will purchase the inventories and rolling stock and will now operate the crop input agronomy division of Madoc Co-operative serving the customers of Hastings and Northumberland Counties. Madoc Co-operative will continue to operate all remaining core businesses including feed, grain, fuel and FS Stores in Madoc, Foxboro and Tweed.

Madoc Co-operative's Board of Directors and County Farm Centre owners Tim Beatty and John Anderson have been looking at the opportunity of working together for some time. "It made good sense," says Madoc Co-operative General Manager John Vincent. "It is good for both organizations and especially good for our members because the business alliance allows for existing member-customers to maintain their co-op interest and investment.

County Farm Centre was formed in 1994 with the purchase of the United Co-operatives of Ontario property in Picton. County Farm Centre currently serves customers in Prince Edward, Lennox and Addington, Hastings and Quinte West Counties. It is a retail outlet that provides products and services in agronomy, grain, feed, hardware, frozen food and fuel. "County Farm Centre has had a good, long-standing relationship with GROWMARK, Inc. since 1994 and we see this as an opportunity to provide good quality products and excellent customer service to this sector of Ontario," says Beatty.

More than 600 members own Madoc Co-operative Association serving rural residents and farmers in Hastings, and Lennox & Addington Counties through locations at Madoc, Tweed and Foxboro. Madoc Co-operative also owns and operates a V&S store located in downtown Madoc and is a shareholder-owner of GROWMARK, Inc.
