Magnum Semiconductor Announces 3D Recording and Playback Solution With TDVision Systems

Magnum's DXTPro Chipsets and Software Provide Full 1080i/ 1080p60 per Eye for Broadcast and Consumer Applications

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - January 6, 2010) - Magnum Semiconductor, the leader in professional-grade compression processors, announced that it has joined forces with TDVision Systems to bring a compatible, robust solution to market for encoding, decoding and archiving of 3D content.

The solution uses Magnum's DXTPro chips to encode a pair of full 1920x1080 streams into the H.264 format, and Magnum's DXT chips to decode and playback video streams up to 1080i/ 1080p60. Magnum's multi-core, top of the line chips allow best of breed video quality delivery while minimizing required transmission bandwidth.

"Magnum's DXTPro product family is the right fit for the evolving 3D experience. User expectations are at their peak and the product family is extraordinary in its ability to scale across multiple cores and chips to provide our customers with unparalleled video quality, compression rates and flexibility from broadcast encoders all the way to set-top platforms in consumer's homes," stated Gal Garniek, VP Marketing and Sales at Magnum Semiconductor. "Having a cost-effective decoder running the same codec software as the high-performance encoder platform ensures compatibility across the delivery chain, and enables Magnum to retain a leadership position in the 3D domain."

"TDVision is very pleased to show its patented 2D+Delta TDVCodec for the 3D market running on Magnum's DXTPro platform," says Ethan Schur, Chief Marketing Officer for TDVision Systems. "Robust, compatible codec chip support throughout the content preparation and delivery chain is crucial for this market to take off and we look forward to working with Magnum to bring this new world of content to consumers worldwide."

The DXTPro processors use four powerful cores working together in a dual-package configuration for maximum density. They are based on a scalable and flexible multi-core architecture, which delivers uncompromising video quality at very low bit rates in a special package especially designed for high-density applications. Multi-format support includes SD, HD and full HD at 1920x1080 resolution and at frame rates up to 50/60 frames/second.
