- Young Makers A collaboration between Pixar, the Exploratorium, and Maker Faire, the Young Makers program encourages young people to become makers and develop projects they can bring to Maker Faire. (Saturday, 6 pm)
- Creativity with Zero Coke and Mentos Fritz Grobe and Stephen Voltz of EepyBird discuss fostering creativity in schools and in our culture. EepyBird's famous geysers of mint-powered soda were named "Best of 2006" by People magazine. (Sunday, 2 pm)
- The Great Global Hackerspace Challenge Award Over the last few months, 28 hackerspaces from around the globe have engaged in a friendly competition to create, hack, and/or modify something that will have a positive impact on education. The only regulations were that each team use a microcontroller and a portable power supply. (Sunday, 5 pm)
Wouldn't it be cool if you could create an app that helps you ace your next test or make that perfect stock buy? Dreaming up and then creating the next great app may be simpler than you think. In his session, Phil McKinney, chief technology officer of HP's Personal Systems Group and contributing columnist at Forbes, will share how the barrier to creating killer apps is coming down, and reveal his "wish list" of apps that he hopes will be an inspiration to the DIY community. McKinney is responsible for long-range strategic planning and research and development (R&D) for all of the HP's PC product lines, including displays, mobile devices, notebooks, desktops and workstations.
