Manitoba Film Wins Festival Award

Black Field wins BEST CANADIAN FEATURE at Female Eye Film Festival

Attention: Arts/Entertainment Editor WINNIPEG--(Marketwire - March 29, 2010) - Century Street Distribution is pleased to announce that Black Field, the debut feature film by Danishka Esterhazy, has been awarded BEST CANADIAN FEATURE at the Female Eye Film Festival in Toronto.

The award was presented Sunday, March 28th, at the CLOSING RECEPTION and AWARDS GALA held at the Novotel Toronto Centre.

Black Field is a romantic historical drama set in 19th century rural Manitoba. Variety describes the film as "a Brontë-esque tale of two sisters and the mysterious male who romances them both. Writer-director Danishka Esterhazy gets the feel of rugged prairie life just right."

The film was written and directed by Winnipeg filmmaker Danishka Esterhazy. In 2008, Esterhazy was awarded the prestigious Kodak New Vision Award. She is currently shortlisted for the John Hirsch Award for most Promising Manitoba Writer. Black Field is her first feature-length film.

"I am so thrilled to receive this award," says Esterhazy. "Black Field is a Canadian story, shot in Manitoba, starring Canadian actors. It is a romantic story inspired by the history of early Canadian homesteaders. I am so happy that the film is finding its audience and that the reception has been so positive."

Black Field will be released in theatres across Canada in June 2010.
