Marbella is Surprise Choice of Michelle Obama for a Presidential Holiday

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Aug. 27, 2010) - The First Lady, Michelle Obama caused surprise recently by choosing to holiday with her daughter, Sasha in Marbella for a few days.

The seaside resort was seen by some as an unusual choice for the 4 night stay, when compared with other world leaders' holidays, including our own British Prime Minister, David Cameron who stayed close to home with a trip in Cornwall. Then there was French President, Nicolas Sarkozy who stayed in the French resort of Cap Negre and Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero, who ventured to Leon.

However, it was stated by the Obama camp that the trip was a mother-daughter vacation for a short stay at the exclusive Hotel Villa Padierna, with a group of friends.

Michelle Obama followed in the footsteps of many holidaymakers this year by choosing it as her summer holiday destination. Marbella enjoys thousands of visitors every year; attracted by the sunshine, the beaches and the glitz of the stunning properties and beautiful yachts.

Car hire Malaga style is deemed the best way to see the area - it means hiring the best car you can afford and seeing the sights of Marbella (simultaneously with a bit of celeb-spotting too) plus the awe-inspiring rural scenery thrown in just for good measure.

A spokesperson for Auto Europe, who specialise in car hire worldwide, including car hire Spain based, commented: 'Marbella is a great holiday spot and we have hundreds of customers every year who hire a car to travel far and wide all over the region in order to see everything from the impressive houses and marina to the more picturesque parts of the countryside too. It's no surprise that Michelle Obama has been attracted by the area'.

The Obama seal of approval is sure to do wonders for the tourism industry of the Costa del Sol, although it has caused the family reasonable controversy. Some critics have claimed that the decadent reputation of Marbella shows the Obamas to be 'elite' but others argue that the resort is a popular holiday choice for many and hasn't cost the taxpayer anything.

The Mediterranean hot spot has in recent times been associated more with WAGs and partygoers than presidential families, so the visit by the First Lady is being viewed by many as a possible nod to the return of Marbella's heyday; a time when it was associated more with aristocrats and Hollywood glamour.
