Mark G. Anderson Consultants Helps Council on Foreign Relations' DC Building Achieve LEED® Gold Certification

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - October 28, 2009) - Mark G. Anderson Consultants (MGAC), a leading independent provider of owner's representation and project management services, is proud to announce that the Council on Foreign Relations' (CFR) Washington, DC building was recently awarded LEED gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is an independent, nonpartisan membership organization, think tank, and publisher dedicated to helping shape the foreign policy choices facing the United States and other countries. MGAC served as the project manager for the entirety of the award winning project.

Located at 1777 F Street NW, the renovated building incorporated two previously existing buildings, a Victorian-style townhouse completed in 1871 and a modern concrete and glass building built in 1981. MGAC partnered with architecture and design firm Mancini•Duffy, and construction began in November 2007 and was completed in December 2008. "The LEED certification of our Washington building is an important validation of CFR's commitment to environmental responsibility. It is a smart thing to do, as energy savings will more than pay for the additional costs associated with reaching LEED gold status. It is also the right thing to do," said CFR President Richard N. Haass.

MGAC acted on behalf of CFR to manage the people, organizations, and processes involved to study the existing building, map out the desired program, confirm major elements / systems to be renovated, identify what elements could be creatively utilized, coordinate utility upgrades, execute the design process, and manage the purchase of construction contracts so that the client's goals were met.

MGAC acted as the conductor for the service providers and contractors (22 organizations were involved), and communicated issues and major decisions to the client throughout the seven month design process, and twelve month construction period. MGAC also handled the furniture procurement and move coordination process, to ensure a smooth transition to the new building, while coordinating with multiple departments at the NY headquarters. The project was delivered on time and under budget. MGAC also worked closely with the client after move-in, to ensure all punch list work was complete and all systems functioning as intended. "We're thrilled with the building and not just because it was on time and under budget, but also because of the quality of the job," Haass added.

MGAC is recognized for its quality work on many high profile projects for corporate, institutional, cultural, and public sector clients. In addition to CFR, the firm has provided project management services for Greenpeace, World Wildlife Fund, University of California, Center for American Progress and several embassies in Washington, DC, including the House of Sweden, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the Embassy of Liechtenstein. The firm managed over $1 billion in construction value in 2008 alone for clients.

Mark Anderson, President and the firm's founder, stated, "We are proud to have helped a world-class organization like CFR achieve their goal of LEED gold. The achievement of LEED status further cements CFR's status as a world leader in energy and climate change policy."
