Mark Logic Announces Two New Quick Start Packages for Publishing Market

Digital Asset Distribution and Custom Publishing Solutions Simplify Content Syndication and Accelerate Creation of New Products From Existing Content

SAN CARLOS, CA--(Marketwire - December 3, 2007) - Mark Logic® Corporation, provider of the industry's leading XML content server, today announced the Digital Asset Distribution Quick Start Package and the Custom Publishing Quick Start Package, two new solutions for the publishing market. Both solutions include a combination of software and services designed to help publishers overcome technical hurdles and quickly maximize the value of their content assets in order to generate new revenue and compete in an increasingly dynamic market.

The Digital Asset Distribution solution helps publishers centralize their digital assets in a single repository and, using web services, rapidly integrate these assets with other applications and syndicate the content to their partners. With MarkLogic Server, publishers can create and deploy a syndication platform that facilitates the electronic distribution of content.

The Custom Publishing solution enables book and magazine publishers to quickly slice their content at any level of granularity and re-assemble it dynamically based on very specific requirements for various target audiences. Through custom publishing, content can be efficiently and effectively leveraged to create new revenue-generating products, enabling publishers to reach a wider audience of end users and to increase top line revenue.

"The publishing landscape is continuing to change rapidly. Both market forces and end-user demands are requiring publishers to atomize their content in order to stay competitive," said Pascal Honscher, director of information technology at O'Reilly Media. "Mark Logic has not only provided a solid technology foundation for handling this fine-grained information, but also has given us an incredible boost in our ability to bring new products to this changing market faster. The growing end-user demand to access content from a range of devices creates a clear need for a dynamic platform that allows publishers to repurpose and repackage their assets."

Both Quick Start solutions leverage the unique capabilities of MarkLogic Server, increasing agility of traditional book and magazine publishers through innovation and experimentation. With digital asset distribution, book publishers can quickly begin selling their assets in smaller increments, such as chapters, paragraphs, and images, through new channels and partners. Similarly, custom publishing allows content owners to repurpose portions of their content in a variety of different products, targeting print, web, and mobile formats, to generate additional revenue opportunities. With the agile development techniques incorporated into MarkLogic Server, publishers can implement these new distribution solutions and begin assembling content from different sources into new products in far less time.

"With the growth of online publishing, the emergence of e-books as a viable form of new media, and the explosion of free internet content, publishers are challenged to find innovative, revenue-generating business models," said Max Schireson, senior vice president of customer solutions for Mark Logic Corporation. "Publishers need to look for ways to integrate content from disparate sources and reuse this content to create new products that are focused on sub-segments of their markets and tailored for specific audiences thus increasing customer intimacy and retention. Publishers need to react quickly to market changes and experiment with new business models now, and Mark Logic's Digital Asset Distribution and Custom Publishing Quick Start Packages can help them start that process today."

Mark Logic has already implemented solutions for digital asset distribution and custom publishing at leading companies in the publishing industry, including Simon & Schuster, O'Reilly Media, McGraw-Hill Education and ALM. These new Quick Start packages take the knowledge and expertise gained from those deployments and enable a greater range of customers to quickly build and deploy sophisticated applications.

Each of the Quick Start solutions includes:

-- Pre-built solution components designed for custom publishing and
digital asset distribution, implemented by a Mark Logic consultant
-- One MarkLogic Server license for use with the Quick Start solution
-- One year of maintenance
