After Monday's Bell Market Commentary

On Monday, the markets closed higher as investors embraced news that the Group of 20 will continue to aid the world economy. The Dow Jones industrial average surged to its highest level in more than a year as a falling dollar boosted prices for gold, oil and other commodities. Oil prices edged higher to $78 as Hurricane Ida continued to threaten oil operations in the Gulf of Mexico. Crude oil rose $2 to settle at $79.43 per barrel. Gold topped $1,100 an ounce. Bond prices were little changed. The dollar fell against a basket of foreign currencies, to its lowest level in 15 months. The Dow rose 203.52, or 2 percent, to 10,226.94. The Nasdaq composite index rose 41.62, or 2 percent, to 2,154.06. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 23.78, or 2.2 percent, to 1,093.08. The Russell 2000 index rose 11.96, or 2.1 percent, to 592.31.
