Maverick Angels Launches New Utah Chapters in Provo and Salt Lake City

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - May 4, 2010) -  Maverick Angels, one of the nation's leading and most innovative angel investor networks, today announced the launch of new Chapters in Salt Lake City and Provo, Utah. The Utah Maverick Angels launch events will be held on Thursday, May 6th at building A of software giant Novell in Provo and on Friday, May 7th at the offices of prominent Salt Lake City law firm Durham, Jones & Pinegar. The launch meetings will begin at 11:30 AM and run until 2:30 PM and will include three deal presentations by Maverick Angels portfolio companies focused on various industries.

Brent Israelsen, CEO of Digital Ecosystems, Inc., former Morgan, Lewis & Bockius attorney and Jurisoft/Lexis Nexis executive, will head up the expansion as a Chapter President. "Maverick Angels has a unique angel investment model which will help to support the launch, growth, and expansion of promising start-up companies in Utah," said Israelsen. "I am pleased to help bring the group's win-win approach to support entrepreneurs, angel investors and the local communities as well as larger corporate players seeking to acquire new, game-changing innovations."

Former six-term U.S. Congressman Chris Cannon representing Utah has expressed strong support for Maverick Angels' expansion into his State. "The Maverick Angels model provides the first replicable path for new companies to avoid failure and grow quickly. I believe the original venture type investors, who got personally involved and helped little companies grow, will re-emerge using these new tools," said Cannon.

"This approach will be good for people with new ideas, good for America, and good for the rest of a world that is desperately waiting for America to produce these new and liberating ideas. Maverick Angels can help encourage the reemergence of the investor who is concerned for America," Cannon explained.

Maverick Angels management has been working in recent months to build key strategic relationships with a variety of players across Utah's entrepreneurial ecosystem.
They include universities, large cap corporate partners, economic development agencies and municipalities, technology incubators, corporate law firms, financial services firms as well as angel investors and wealth management advisors.

"Utah is the source of tremendous innovation and entrepreneurial activity," said John Dilts, Founder and President of Maverick Angels, which is based in Southern California. "The business, investment and entrepreneurial community, together with several of the universities in the State of Utah, have welcomed us with open arms, and we expect to grow our unique investor network rapidly in that great State." Dilts expressed confidence in the new Chapter leader, adding, "I have worked with Brent in a variety of capacities for over a decade. He is a true visionary leader who shares our commitment to finding a better way to support and profit from new entrepreneurial ventures."

In connection with its continued national and international growth and expansion, Maverick Angels has also announced that it has expanded the reach of its regional Chapters in Los Angeles area to become the sole "Maverick Angels Southern California" Chapter. This new, broader regional network is headed up by Southern California Chapter President Bill Barber, a former Amgen executive and successful serial entrepreneur.
