Media Advisory: 429 Squadron Welcomes New Honorary Colonel

TRENTON, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 10, 2009) - Media are invited to attend the investiture of the new 429 Squadron Honorary Colonel, Major General (Ret'd) H.C. (Skip) Armstrong on Friday, 11 December, 2009 at the National Air Force Museum of Canada in Trenton.

Major General Armstrong joined the RCAF as a pilot in 1962 and served with the Canadian Forces for nearly 35 years. General Armstrong has more than 9200 flying hours in fighter, trainer, and transport aircraft and was Commanding Officer of 429 Squadron from 1980-1982. After retiring, General Armstrong was the Director Business Development and Director Homeland Security for General Dynamics Canada in Calgary. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Board, SolaCom Technologies and Chairman of the Board of Governors, Southern Alberta Canadian Corps of Commissionaires.

Honorary Colonels work behind the scenes and provide a much needed connection between the community and the Canadian Forces. Each unit decides who they want as an Honorary Colonel. On the recommendation of the Chief of the Defence Staff, the Minister of National Defence approves all honorary appointments. These unpaid positions are usually for tenures of three years, but they are renewable.
