Media Advisory: Air Force Unit in Montreal Area Gets Ready for Afghanistan

ST. HUBERT, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Feb. 1, 2007) - Members from 438 Escadron tactique d'hélicoptères (438 ETAH) in St-Hubert, who are deploying to Afghanistan, will be training at the military exercise facilities in Farnham Friday, Feb. 2 at 8:30 a.m.

The training involves a 13-km march in full combat gear with a 25 kg rucksack and weapon; followed by a "carrying of the wounded" and a "digging of a trench". The training will take approximately three hours to complete.

438 ETAH - the only Air Force unit in the Montreal region tasked to Kandahar - are deploying with the Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Flight (TUAV FLT) Roto 4 in support of Joint Task Force Afghanistan.

Media are invited to attend the pre-deployment training. Media photographers and videographers will be permitted to move freely to gather images of the training on a non-interference basis. A media opportunity with members of 438 ETAH and the Commanding Officer Lieutenant-Colonel Luc Martineau will be held during and after the training.

NOTE TO EDITORS: Media planning to attend can go directly to Farnham's main gate and ask for Hangar E-17 Range control, where they will be met by a 438 ETAH member at 8:30 a.m. Media can also follow the convoy leaving 438 ETAH Hangar 10 at 6:30 a.m. Interested media are asked to confirm attendance by contacting Warrant Officer Danielle Côté, 438 ETAH Unit Information Officer, at (450) 462-8777 ext. 7979 or (514) 295-1478 ASAP. Direction to Hangar 10: From "Chemin Chambly" road in St.Hubert by the airport, take the "Chemin de la Savane road. Pass the St.Hubert city Hall and the next street on your right will be Leckie. Go strait to the gait guard and he will direct you to the Hangar 10.
