Media Advisory: CJC Ontario Region Presents Lenkinski Award to TTC Bus Driver Thursday, Oct. 25

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 23, 2007) - Canadian Jewish Congress Ontario Region will be presenting the Louis Lenkinski Memorial Award to Geovanny Hidalgo, a bus driver for the Toronto Transit Commission, on Thursday, October 25 at 11 a.m. at the TTC Wilson Division, 160 Transit Road, Toronto.

The award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated excellence and dedication in the area of human rights, community service and social justice. CJCONT chose Mr. Hidalgo because of his quick efforts while on duty last March to assist police when they apprehended three men, one of whom was wearing white supremacist paraphernalia, caught breaking synagogue windows at the Chabad Midtown Jewish Community Centre in Toronto.

Louis Lenkinski made significant contributions to Canadian society through his leadership in the labour movement and the Jewish community. He served with distinction on the CJCONT executive and as Chair of its Community Relations Committee. He was also a member of the Ontario Human Rights Commission.

Louis Lenkinski's son, Lionel, will take part in the presentation ceremony.
