Media Advisory-CUPE 3902: Press Conference Honouring Fair Employment Week and Strike Date Announcement

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 27, 2009) - Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3902, Unit 3, University of Toronto Sessional Instructors, will hold a press conference Wednesday, October 28 to celebrate Fair Employment Week and announce their strike date. Fair Employment Week is a North American-wide campaign to highlight the plight of contingent academic workers like the Sessional Instructors at U of T, CUPE 3902 Unit 3.

Speakers at the press conference will include Penni Stewart, President of the Canadian Association of University Teachers (CAUT), Rosario Marchese, Ontario NDP Education Critic and Leslie Jermyn, CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Representative.

The 1200 members of this local teach 30 per cent of undergraduate academic courses, and include Sessional Instructional Assistants, Writing Instructors, and Music Instructors, at the University. They have been unable to negotiate a fair collective agreement with the University and will announce their strike date at the press conference.
