Media Advisory: Canadian Forces Day Walk/Run in Red

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 4, 2009) - In the lead-up to Canadian Forces Day, approximately 2,500 military and civilian staff from the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces will participate in the third annual Red Walk/Run on Friday June 5, from 12:20 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event celebrates the tremendous contributions that military personnel make to society, both at home and abroad.

General Walt Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff, and guest of honour, Sue O'Sullivan, Deputy Chief of the Ottawa Police Service will provide closing remarks at Confederation Park. They will also be joined by the Honourable Laurie Hawn, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, and Jim Little, Chief Brand & Communications Officer for the Royal Bank of Canada to announce the participation of the Canadian Forces and the Department of National Defence in the Olympic Torch Relay.

Participants will start lining up at the Pedestrian Bridge on the Colonel By side of the Rideau Canal and return on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway to finish at Confederation Park.
