Media Advisory: Canadian Labour Congress Will Present to Finance Committee

Hassan Yussuff to call for pension, Employment Insurance reform

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 14, 2009) - Hassan Yussuff, Secretary-Treasurer of the Canadian Labour Congress, will appear before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance on Tuesday, September 15. He will be accompanied by Andrew Jackson, CLC's Chief Economist. They will be available for comments to the media.

There are more than 1.6 million people unemployed in Canada as a result of the economic crisis. They and other Canadians have also watched their pensions and retirement income evaporate in the past year. The CLC and its affiliated unions have launched a campaign to protect pensions by doubling Canada Pension Plan benefits. The CLC is also fighting to make EI accessible to all workers who need it.
