Media Advisory: Governor General to Present Yannick Nezet-Seguin With a Performing Arts Award

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 15, 2010) - Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond will present the National Arts Centre (NAC) Award to conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin during a brief ceremony on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 8 p.m., in the Southam room of the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. A concert conducted by Mr. Nézet-Séguin will follow the ceremony.

The NAC Award, given out annually as part of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards, recognizes extraordinary work in the performing arts by an individual artist and/or company in the past performance year.

Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin is one of the fastest-rising stars. Acclaimed by musicians, audiences and critics alike for his musicality, dedication and charisma, he is in great demand as a symphonic and operatic conductor and has appeared with leading orchestras around the world. In addition to a commemorative medallion and a cash prize of $25,000, Mr. Nézet-Séguin will receive an original work of art by artist Paula Murray, of Chelsea, Quebec.
