OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 26, 2007) - As Canada defeated the host country 3-0 today to start the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic, the host organizing committee for the 2009 championship in Ottawa is set to unveil the countdown clock at 6:25 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27 at Gate 1 (main entrance). The clock will be set for next year's first game, scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 26, 2008 at Scotiabank Place.

Eugene Melnyk, chair of the 2009 championship, will be joined by Minister Jim Watson, Richard Waldorf, president of the Ottawa District Hockey Association, and 10 minor hockey players representing each of the world junior competing nations.

The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship in Hockey Country features 31 games being played over 10 days in one city, Ottawa, from Dec. 26, 2008, to Jan. 5, 2009.

While ticket packages representing more than 300,000 tickets have already been sold for the event, hockey fans can purchase packages at, by calling 613-599-FANS (3267), 1-877-788- FANS (3267) or at the Ottawa Senators' box office.

The bronze 17-game package is available at $750 per seat in the upper bowl at SBP. Fewer than 400 gold and silver packages are still available, with gold packages priced at $1,150 per seat for 31 games in the lower level at and the Civic Centre. The silver package for 31 games is $850 per seat in the upper bowl. All ticket packages include seats for every Team Canada game and all playoff and medal-round games.
