Media Advisory: I Killed My Mother Awarded Best Feature Film at the Zagreb Film Festival With the Governor General in Attendance

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 25, 2009) - I Killed My Mother (J'ai tue ma mere), a film by director Xavier Dolan, was awarded Best Feature Film at the 7th Zagreb Film Festival. On October 24, during her State visit to Croatia, Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaelle Jean, Governor General of Canada, attended the festival's closing ceremonies. The award winner was announced at the Student Centre Cinema, in Zagreb.

"This is wonderful news for a beautiful Quebec film and a young, extremely promising filmmaker. The entire delegation and I celebrate this magnificent film," said the Governor General.

Actor Francois Arnaud, who attended the festival, accepted the award on behalf of director Xavier Dolan. The Canadian delegation warmly applauded this tribute for a film by one of our own.

Before the closing ceremonies, the Governor General, in collaboration with the Zagreb Film Festival, hosted an Art Matters forum on the theme of the role of documentaries in our society. Croatian and Canadian filmmakers took part in the discussion.

Today the Governor General continues her State visit to Croatia in Dubrovnik.
