Media Advisory: Ken Georgetti to Speak at Labour Day Picnic in Victoria

CLC President will be available to media for comments

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 31, 2009) - Ken Georgetti, CLC President, will speak to workers and their families at a Labour Day picnic in Victoria, B.C. on Monday, September 7th. He will also be available for comments to the media. The picnic is sponsored by the Victoria Labour Council.

Canadian workers have celebrated their achievements on this day since it was declared a national holiday in 1894, but given the economic crisis and continuing high levels of unemployment this year there is cause for concern. More than 1.5 million workers have lost their jobs and millions more have watched their pensions evaporate. The CLC is fighting for reforms to EI and for measures to protect and improve pensions. Unions can and do make a difference in peoples' lives.
