The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences invites you to the closing ceremony of its 4th Annual Charitable Winter Drive on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 10:30 a.m.

Students, staff, and faculty at Michener have generously collected gifts for Torontonians in need this holiday season. Through the Toronto Firefighters' charity, Operation Christmas Tree, the items will be donated to individuals and families across the city that have lost their homes through fires, or have been displaced, either permanently or temporarily.

Last year the Michener community donated 500 gifts, and this year we hope to better that generous total and reach 600 gifts. The drive began on November 25, and new and gently used gifts for children, teenagers, adults, and senior citizens have already been collected.

Michener's decision to partner with Toronto's firefighters stems from our health and wellness connection. Through our Charitable Winter Drive, Michener's aim is to help minimize the health issues that arise from the loss of a home due to fire. Our hope is to provide some essential products and items that will help families and individuals rebuild their lives.

On December 16, firefighters from the Charity Division and the South Command office will arrive at Michener to pick-up the gift items and enjoy some holiday treats at the closing ceremony.
