Media Advisory: Minister of National Defence to Announce 2009 Arctic Sovereignty Operation

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 6, 2009) - Media are invited to attend a news conference being held by the Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, at the Wardroom of HMCS STADACONA at Canadian Forces Base Halifax, about Canadian Forces Operation NANOOK 09.

WHERE: Wardroom (Officers Mess/Juno Tower), Stadacona site of CFB Halifax.

WHEN: Friday, August 7th at 2:00 p.m. (ADT). (Media are asked to be seated by 1:45 p.m.).

Operation NANOOK 09, the largest of three annual Canadian Forces sovereignty operations in Canada's North, runs from Aug. 6 to 28, 2009, and is being conducted under the command of Joint Task Force North (JTFN), which is responsible for the conduct of all routine and contingency operations in Canada's North.

Operation NANOOK is a joint operation that takes place in the eastern Arctic, and will see the Canadian Forces demonstrate a visible presence with land, sea and air forces operating in the Baffin Island region.

NOTE TO EDITORS: This conference will take place in the Wardroom's Nova Scotia Room. Media are asked to enter Stadacona through the main gate off Gottingen Street where they will be directed to the designated parking area.
