Media Advisory: Minister Oda to Deliver Opening Remarks at Conference on Education for Afghan Women and Girls in Vancouver

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 1, 2009) - At 9:00am on Saturday, October 3rd, the Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation and Vice-Chair of the Cabinet Committee on Afghanistan, will deliver opening remarks at a workshop entitled "Courage to Learn: Education for Afghan Women and Girls."

The event, organized by Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, will be undertaken with the financial support of the Canadian International Development Agency. Lauryn Oates, Project Director of Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, will be featured as the keynote speaker, and visiting Afghan women will share their experiences and stories.

Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan is a volunteer not-for-profit organization founded in 1996 with over ten chapters across Canada. Its goals are to advance education and educational opportunities for Afghan women and their families, and to educate and increase the understanding of Canadians about human rights in Afghanistan.
