Media Advisory: Minister of Veterans Affairs Will Be in Poland to Mark the Outbreak of the Second World War

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 31, 2009) - The Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veterans Affairs, will travel to Poland to represent the Government of Canada in the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Second World War on September 1, 2009. He will participate in a series of commemorative events:

Event 1: Informal Welcome by Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland

Location: Next to Westerplatte Defenders' Cemetery

Time: 2:30 p.m. (local time, Gdansk, Poland)

Event 2: Wreath-Laying Ceremony and Walk of the Heads of Delegation to the Monument to the Defenders of Westerplatte

Location: Westerplatte Defenders' Cemetery

Time: 3:00 p.m. (local time, Gdansk, Poland)

Event 3: Ceremony to Mark 70th Anniversary of the Outbreak of the Second World War

Location: Monument to the Defenders of Westerplatte

Time: 3:30 p.m. (local time, Gdansk, Poland)
