Media Advisory: National Defence Paddles for Charity

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 16, 2009) - Department of National Defence employees and Canadian Forces members will be taking to the waters of Dow's Lake and the Rideau Canal on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. (EST), in the 9th Annual Vice Chief of the Defence Staff (VCDS) Canoe Race, which signals the official kick-off for the 2009 National Defence Workplace Charitable Campaign in the National Capital Region.

The VCDS, Vice-Admiral Denis Rouleau, is also the proud champion of the 2009 campaign. The race is dedicated to the families of Canadian Forces members lost or injured in Afghanistan. The funds raised will be donated to the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC) supporting these families.

10:30 a.m. Race start from HMCS Carleton Jetty at Dow's Lake

11:00 a.m. First participants cross finish line at MacKenzie King Bridge (estimated time)

11:30 a.m. Last participants cross finish line (estimated time)

11:30 a.m.-13:30 p.m. BBQ, activities and awards ceremony at Lisgar Field behind Ottawa City Hall
