Media Advisory: Ontario Ombudsman to Release Report on Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's Decision to Cap Avastin Funding

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 25, 2009) - Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin will release his latest special report on Wednesday, September 30 - at a news conference at 1 p.m. in the Queen's Park Media Studio.

He will report on his investigation into the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care's decision to cap public funding for Avastin - a drug used to treat metastatic colon cancer - at 16 cycles of treatment.

Prior to the news conference, there will be a technical briefing for journalists from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. in Committee Room 2, where copies of the Ombudsman's report will be available (under embargo until the news conference). Senior members of the Ombudsman's staff will be available to answer questions on background. Journalists who are not members of the Queen's Park Press Gallery are asked to report to Room 387A of the Legislative Building for passes, or call Gerald Christopher at 416-325-7922. When the news conference begins at 1 p.m., the full report and media materials will be posted online at the Ombudsman's website, www.ombudsman.on.ca. Video of the news conference will also be posted on the website and YouTube later in the day.
