Media Advisory: Ontario Ombudsman Releases Report on Bestech Academy

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 10, 2009) - Ontario Ombudsman Andre Marin will release his latest special report on Tuesday, July 14 - at an 11 a.m. news conference in the Queen's Park Media Studio.

He will report the results of his investigation into the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities' enforcement of the Private Career Colleges Act and oversight of Bestech Academy, Inc. The unregistered college, with campuses in Stoney Creek and St. Catharines, closed abruptly in October 2008, leaving students and staff in the lurch.

Prior to the news conference, there will be a technical briefing for journalists from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in Committee Room 2, where copies of the Ombudsman's report will be available (under embargo until the news conference). Senior staff of the Ombudsman's office will be available to answer questions on background. Journalists who are not members of the Queen's Park Press Gallery are asked to report to Room 387A of the Legislative Building for passes, or call Gerald Christopher at 416-325-7922.

When the news conference begins at 11 a.m., the full report and media materials will be posted online at the Ombudsman's website, www.ombudsman.on.ca . Video of the news conference will also be posted on the website and YouTube later in the day.
