Media Advisory: Rick Mercer and UNICEF Launch 3rd Annual Spread the Net Student Challenge at Simon Fraser University

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 9, 2009) - Rick Mercer and UNICEF bring the fight against malaria to Simon Fraser University tomorrow to launch the third annual Spread the Net Student Challenge. From September 10, 2009 to February 26, 2010, high school, college and university students across Canada will creatively fundraise for anti-malarial bed nets. At the end of the challenge, the top fundraising school in the West and the one from the East will each receive a personal visit from Rick Mercer and The Rick Mercer Report.

For every $10 raised, a family in Liberia or Rwanda is provided with one long-lasting, insecticide-treated bed net and the educational training that can help reduce the transmission of malaria.

Comedian and Spread the Net co-founder Rick Mercer will be joined by Martha Spears, Regional Director for British Columbia, UNICEF Canada, and Dr. Michael Stevenson, President and Vice-Chancellor, Simon Fraser University to launch the Spread the Net Student Challenge.
