Media Advisory: The Governor General to Open the Jeanne Sauve Lecture Series in Montreal

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Feb. 16, 2010) - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will deliver a speech on the occasion of the inauguration of the Jeanne Sauvé Lecture Series on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at McGill University. While in Montreal, the Governor General will also visit Jeanne Sauvé House as well as Share the Warmth foundation.

10 a.m. – Visit to Jeanne Sauvé House

The Governor General will meet with the Scholars of the Jeanne Sauvé Foundation. The Sauvé Scholars Program is designed for exceptional young leaders (age 30 or under) from across the globe who want to change the world. The Scholars live together in Jeanne Sauvé House. They are invited to participate in some form of social or civic engagement. They also enjoy a unique status at McGill University – the program's academic home – where they benefit from the guidance of an Academic Mentor and enjoy unlimited access to McGill's resources and facilities. The Jeanne Sauvé Foundation inaugurates the Jeanne Sauvé Lecture Series this year. The speech of the Governor General will kick off a discussion on youth engagement in an era of globalization. Jeanne Sauvé Foundation Scholars, university students and professors and youth organizations representatives will participate in the event.

The Governor General will meet with clients, youth, employees, volunteers and members of the board of Share the Warmth. Created in 1990, the foundation offers a variety of programs for youth and families living in poverty, including food and school supplies for students, a youth group, music classes, mentorship, a food bank, a second-hand clothing store, employment assistance services, and youth volunteer work.
