Media Advisory/The Transportation Safety Board of Canada Identifies Deficiencies with Aircraft Landing in Deteriorating Weather Conditions

GATINEAU, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Dec. 10, 2007) - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) will release, on December 12, 2007, its final report (A05H0002) into the runway overrun of an Air France Airbus A340 at Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International Airport, Ontario, on August 2, 2005. The Airbus A340-313 departed Paris, France, as Flight 358, bound for Toronto. There were 297 passengers and 12 crew members on board. The aircraft approached Toronto in a severe and rapidly changing thunderstorm with shifting winds and limited visibility. It came in too high and too fast and touched down almost halfway down the 9000-foot runway. A combination of delayed thrust reversers, a wet and slippery runway and crosswinds meant the aircraft simply ran out of room. The report will be released at a news conference in Toronto, Ontario, on Wednesday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. eastern time. The report will be posted, at the same time, on the TSB website at

The TSB Chair, the Director of Investigations (Air), and the Investigator-in-Charge will present the Board's findings and provide information about the investigation. A question and answer period will follow the news conference. This event is for journalists only.
