Media Advisory-Thunder Bay ON Media Invited to Attend Special Event at the Canadian Coast Guard's Marine Communications and Traffic Services Centre June 29 2010

SARNIA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 23, 2010) - The Canadian Coast Guard (CCG) is inviting members of the Thunder Bay media to attend an information session on its Marine Communications and Traffic Services (MCTS).

Program:

  • A general presentation on Marine Communications and Traffic Services (distress frequencies, the importance of VHF, sectors covered, traffic management)
  • Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) was the first Canadian wireless radio station on the Great Lakes. 2010 marks the 100th anniversary of marine communications on Lake Superior
  • Interviews and photo-taking at the MCTS Centre

This is an opportunity to see Coast Guard operations up close, meet Coast Guard Radio Officers, take photos and find out about an activity that is essential for safe navigation.
