Media Advisory: Veterans' Week 2009 Candlelight Tribute

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 30, 2009) - Media are invited to attend the 9th annual Veterans' Week Candlelight Tribute hosted by Veterans Affairs Canada and the City of Ottawa. Among the speakers are the Honourable Greg Thompson, Minister of Veteran Affairs, His Worship Larry O'Brien, Mayor of the City of Ottawa and Major General Peter Devlin from the Department of National Defence. Private Brian Richard Good, who died January 7, 2009, in Afghanistan, will have an Ottawa street named in his honour. Members of the Good family will be in attendance to receive a replica of the sign.

More than 500 Veterans will take part in the procession along with Cadets, Scouts, Cubs and school children. As a gesture symbolizing the passing of the torch of remembrance, Veterans and Canadian Forces members will pass a candle to an accompanying youth who will then place the candle among others at the tribute.
