Media Madness: New Initiative Provides Both Lucrative Scholarship and Networking Opportunities for Undergraduate Students; Sponsored by the Washington Media Scholars Foundation

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - February 10, 2010) - This March, undergraduates can compete with their peers across the country for an all-expense paid trip to Washington, DC to meet with top executives from the most influential companies and organizations in the media industry. The winning team will be awarded $10,000 in scholarship money; $2,500 for each member, plus $5,000 for their school, along with the National Excellence in Media award.

Beginning March 1st, registered teams of two students assume the role of public policy campaign consultants, creating a strategic media plan based on a hypothetical public policy issue. The six finalist teams in the media plan case competition will be invited to Washington, DC to participate in Media Scholars Week (June 6 - 11, 2010). Media Scholars Week culminates with a Networking Reception held at the Newseum (www.newseum.org).

Free online registration is now open at www.MediaScholars.org and continues until the media plan due date of April 5, allowing busy students time to get in on the action.

"Along with a number of my colleagues in the media industry, I've always tried to help students get a foot in the door, but in this tough economic climate we felt the need to broaden the opportunities for undergraduates with the creation of the foundation," said Washington Media Scholars Foundation President, Robin D. Roberts.

The Washington Media Scholars Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit, non-partisan organization, that engages undergraduate college students interested in public policy media strategy, research and management with outside the classroom educational programs, and provides scholarship opportunities for both students and their home institutions.
