Media Offered Preview: Indoor Urban Operations Training Centre

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 22, 2007) - Media are invited to preview 32 Canadian Brigade Group's indoor urban operations training centre before the official opening ceremonies scheduled to take place the next day.

The new facility features a town modelled after urban terrain in Afghanistan and will train soldiers to react to improvised explosive devices and similar threats while performing tasks such as patrols and VIP escorts.

Location

From the Allen and Sheppard intersection, drive west on Sheppard. Turn left at the first traffic lights onto Yukon Lane. Follow the signs that say "Media Centre" to the building located at 400 Carl Hall Rd.

24 January

A short briefing will commence at 7 a.m. followed by an opportunity for journalists to gear-up and participate in the training in teams of four to six. The scenarios will last approximately ten minutes each. Interview opportunities are available with soldiers and instructors.

25 January

1 p.m. Welcome and Introductions (at classroom 10 in the Denison Armoury which can be identified by the large recruiting poster, 1 Yukon Lane)

1:30 p.m. Spectators move to the indoor urban operations training centre for the Battle School's Advanced Warfare Training Team briefing

2:30 p.m. Demonstration of the range
