Mediware's Blood Center Strategy Continues Growth Momentum

Modular Solution Approach Helps Major Blood Centers Such as Florida Blood Services and Heartland Blood Center Target Efficiency and Safety

LENEXA, KS--(Marketwire - February 4, 2010) - Mediware Information Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: MEDW) announced today that two more major blood centers have licensed the company's Blood Center Technologies (BCT) software solutions. These sales are the latest examples of a surging momentum the company has experienced with its BCT products over the past 12 months. The sales also emphasize the growing popularity of the company's blood center product offerings, which allow blood centers to manage their full clinical and recruiting enterprise or add modules one at a time.

One of Mediware's major new customers is the St. Petersburg-based Florida Blood Services (FBS) which recently launched Mediware's online OrderTrak product. FBS, which recently merged with Southeastern Community Blood Center, Northwest Florida Blood Center, and BloodNet USA, collects approximately 340,000 units of blood annually, making it one of the nation's 10 largest independent blood center organizations. FBS was attracted to Mediware's OrderTrak product because of its ability to help FBS centrally manage thousands of orders from approximately 84 hospitals in 40 counties.

"The size of our organization has grown dramatically over the past few years and our teams and customers need to invest in tools that streamline processes, make us more effective in our roles and supports our safety initiatives," said Don Doddridge, FBS chief executive officer. "We believe that online ordering and tracking capabilities will provide an immediate impact and are pleased that Mediware has a focused and proven solution for that meets our needs."

Mediware has also expanded its relationship with Heartland Blood Centers. Heartland has 17 blood center facilities and distributes more than 160,000 units of blood to 35 hospitals in 12 counties throughout Illinois and Indiana. Heartland has leveraged Mediware's LifeTrak donor management system for more than 7 years and chose to expand the Mediware relationship to leverage Mediware's web-based RecruitTrak to increase donor recruitment efficiency.

"We've been paying close attention to the impressive list of solutions Mediware has introduced to support blood centers," said Ann McKanna, Heartland's vice president of marketing and new business development. "From a business perspective, we value the flexibility to pick and choose additional capabilities that will help address our strategic initiatives. We also value the ability to expand relationships with a trusted vendor. As increasing our recruiting efficiency is one of our top priorities, the selection of Mediware's RecruitTrak was an easy decision."

Mediware offers robust and yet highly flexible web-based products that allow customers to implement one or more technologies that address their strategic needs. The benefits of this modular approach include keeping customers start up costs down to implement new technologies, keeping implementation projects smaller and focused; and providing a growing number of tools that can be implemented over time and as needed.

With a core donor management system that is FDA regulated and cleared as a medical device, Mediware now has seven additional blood center software technologies in use by more than 400 blood center facilities. This now includes eight of the top ten blood producing organizations in the United States.

"The blood center market has been very responsive to our market strategies and our teams have been exceptionally busy with new installations as well as investing in the future capabilities our customers will require," said Thomas Mann, Mediware's president and chief executive officer. "Given the size of this blood center market, the acceptance of these solutions has created noticeable momentum and we look forward to the continued success of this team as we expand our capabilities, solution offerings and market focus."
