Melkior Drills 2152 Metres in Carscallen-West Timmins: Pyrite in Quartz Veins

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 19, 2009) - Melkior Resources Inc. ("Melkior") (TSX VENTURE:MKR) is pleased to report that it has completed the July 2009 drill program on its Carscallen property, located approximately 20 km west of Timmins, Ontario, 5km west of the Lake Shore Gold Corp Bristol mine and adjacent to the property of West Timmins Mining Inc. Earlier this summer, Melkior staked an additional 18 unit claims covering 288 hectares to extend its holdings in the area. This enlarges the Carscallen property to 102 claim units totalling 1603 hectares.

A total of 2152 metres of drilling (14 holes) was completed by Laframboise Drilling Inc. by late July, and core was logged and sampled by Geovector Management Inc. The program was expanded from the original design and totalled 1200 metres. 402 samples of drill core were taken from the current drilling program and submitted for assay for gold and trace elements by the ALS Chemex Laboratory in Timmins, Ontario.

The majority of the assays will be completed and reported in September and the results of the current drilling and assays will be integrated with the earlier drilling results. Specific locations for deeper drilling will be based on the results from this program and from previous shallow drill programs, the objective will be to test for gold mineralization at greater depths.

The majority of the holes recently completed were designed to test a new 750 metres long east-west oriented Induced Polarization anomaly located at the northern extremity of the north-south Zam-Zam-Shenkman zone where numerous gold intersections were obtained in previously reported drilling. Mineralization in this zone consists of pyrite-quartz veins/stringer-hosted material that returned interesting gold values in the previous drilling program. The main mineralization consists of silica, carbonate and pyrite. The mineralized zones are typically on the order of one metre wide with a high density of stringer veins. Some holes can contain more than two or three mineralized zones and contain sections with up to 10-15% pyrite. The correlation between the abundance of pyrite and the presence of gold in these holes will be verified by assaying. The host rock consists of a medium-to coarse-grained granite, which is weakly magnetic due to the presence of magnetite. Quartz, K-spar, plagioclase and biotite are present in almost equal proportions. Mafic volcanic rocks and gabbro occur north of the granite but only a few holes reached extended across this contact into those lithologies. A wide porphyry intrusion was observed southwest of the Zam-Zam zone. The granite is affected by different stages of alteration. These include development of epidote and sericite, potassification and carbonate alteration, and silicification with carbonate alteration. A late stage of hematization overprints the other alteration mineral assemblages. Some of the alteration is directly related to the emplacement of the target mineralization.

The gold exploration program on the Carscallen property is currently the highest priority of Melkior's projects. The Company holds three other claim groups in the West Timmins area, namely the Bristol, Big Marsh and Fripp properties. Three more Timmins claim groups will also be explored, in Loveland, Shaw and Eldorado townships. In total, Melkior has 519 claim units totalling 9456 hectares in the Timmins gold camp.

The Qualified Person undertaking the core logging and sections selected for assay was Eric Hebert, PhD, P.Geol. Mr. Hebert is employed by the consulting company GeoVector Management Inc.
