Mercedes Benz Launch Cold Weather Tyre Programme

FLINT, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2010) - Leading van insurance specialists Staveley Head have welcomed a new initiative by Mercedes Benz to help support motorists in snowy and icy conditions.

As part of the Cold Weather Tyre Programme, the German manufacturer are offering new tyres made of silica, which offer enhanced grip and tread patterns, enabling better grip. The tyres are capable of gripping the road, even at temperatures of -7 degrees and tests have shown that they can improve stopping distances by as much as 11 metres when driving at low speeds.

The tyres are available for all current Mercedes-Benz and Smart models and can be purchased from Mercedes dealerships and approved workshops. They could potentially be invaluable for van drivers, as Mercedes-Benz UK's Mike Belk comments:

"They (cold weather tyres) give enhanced performance whatever the cold road conditions. The costs of running cold weather tyres are offset with the additional life given to regular tyres and indeed can be entirely recouped if they enable the driver to avoid even one minor icy accident."

The move has been welcomed by Flintshire-based brokers Staveley Head, with a spokesperson commenting:

"In recent weeks, Britain has been hit with now and ice, which have caused havoc for motorists. Measures such as this will hopefully help to make life easier for drivers in the coming weeks."

"Mercedes Benz is a brand which is synonymous with safety and innovation and this is just the latest in a range of products and services offered by the manufacturer which make their cars and vans so attractive to drivers.
