Merseyside-Fire Crews Vote Two to One to Strike Against Sacking of Kevin Hughes

MERSEYSIDE, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Sept. 29, 2009) - Merseyside fire crews have voted two to one to strike against the sacking of Kevin Hughes.

Number of votes cast: 652
Number answering 'yes' 425
Number answering 'no' 224
Number of spoiled voting paper 3

Les Skarratts, FBU's Merseyside Brigade Secretary said "The ballot result is Merseyside firefighter's verdict and they find in favour of Kevin Hughes. The Fire Authority needs to look at the decision of the appeal hearing.

"In our view the process was badly flawed, creating a series of wrong decisions. That the appeal hearing spilt along political lines is a dreadful indictment. It gives the impression that the decision of the appeal panel was a political decision and that cannot be right.

"We will give the Fire Authority some time to reflect and decide whether to back the decision of the appeal panel. The quicker they start making the right decisions the better".
