MiMa Fine Art Publishers, Inc. and 'the Bay': "Canadian Artists At The Bay" Grand Opening Event a Great Success

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2008) - On September 5, 'the Bay' Vancouver Downtown, officially launched a new line of art featuring Canadian artists, "MiMa at the Bay". The "Grand Opening Event" was a great success that gathered many enthusiasts of the art world together, including artists, art collectors, interior designers and people in the art business. The event captured the attention of the press worldwide, including The Wall Street Journal and Reuters. Sixteen of the thirty-three exhibiting Canadian Artists were present and one, Annie Siegel, performed live jazz music on the grand piano. The evening included a charity auction of a painting by Sunshine Coast artist Motoko, which raised eighteen hundred dollars for the BC Children's Hospital. Everyone was delighted with the range and quality of the 350 artworks on show, as well as the atmosphere it created in the Bay. People commented on how "Canadian Artists at the Bay was a natural fit that should go national."

As Mark Prior, director of MiMa Fine Art, put it: "We consider this a momentous occasion that calls for celebration. Here at 'the Bay' today, the corporate world has joined with some the best of the local artists, to bring their work to the people in their neighboring communities at affordable prices. This has opened the way for Canadian artists to have a platform from which to present their work to the public who might not ordinarily visit art galleries. The Bay and the artists gathered here are pioneers, setting a model for collaboration between artists and corporations in a way that benefits their communities and the culture as a whole."

In addition to the opening of a gallery on the 5th floor, originals and limited editions are displayed throughout the 6th floor to enhance the Bay's furniture line and provide an art experience for the clients walking through. This initiative means support and increased exposure for a number of Canadian artists, most of whom are from British Columbia. The launch of "MiMa at the Bay" coincided with the Bay's launch of a new nationwide marketing campaign, "Live Artfully".

Two contemporary international artists living on Denman Island, Mitra Ghaffari and Mark Prior founded MiMa Fine Art Publishers, Inc. in 2004. Over the past four years, their joint venture has brought the art of over 40 artists to national and international publics.

The 350 works of art on display include both original paintings and collectable limited editions, with new art and artists introduced regularly. The staff is very enthusiastic and supportive, reporting terrific reactions from customers who love the unexpected "art-in-the-home and at-work experience".

The Canadian artists present at the event were: Gaye Adams, Mitra Ghaffari, Won-Hee Gowen, Gigi Hoeller, Richard Hunt, Caroline James, Motoko (who gave a live painting demonstration during the day), Page Ough, Mark Prior, Jocelyn Barrable Segal, Annie Siegel, Carol Short, Steve Silverman, Elisabeth Sommerville, Eva Sova, and Bill Wilkinson.
