Michigan Artists to Host "Holiday Glass Art & Ornament Extravaganza"

December 5th & 6th Weekend Sale Will Feature Michigan Made Holiday Pieces & Glass Blowing Demonstrations

DEARBORN, MI--(Marketwire - November 9, 2009) - If you're getting ready to decorate for the holidays or shopping for a special gift for a loved one or friend, you won't want to miss the "Holiday Glass Art & Ornament Extravaganza" from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2009. This weekend event, featuring more than 15 styles of hand blown glass ornaments and other unique glass art, will be held at the Glass Academy, www.glassacademy.com, located at 25331 Trowbridge, near Gulley Road and Michigan Avenue in west Dearborn.

"We'll be decorated for the holidays and shoppers can select from dozens of glass candy canes, a wide variety of twirl and bubble ornaments, one-of-a-kind beads, tree toppers and glass straws," said Michelle Plucinsky, a glass artist and co-owner of the Glass Academy. "Visitors can also enjoy glass blowing and lampworking demonstrations that will be held throughout the weekend sale."

Plucinsky hopes that attendance at this weekend event will become an annual tradition for individuals, couples and families. There is no admission to attend.

Local ice carver Jeff Prather will demonstrate his artistry outside the Glass Academy from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, Dearborn Mayor John B. O'Reilly, Jr. will stop by to design a glass vase that will be raffled off during the two-day event. In addition, Kris Jablonski will be pulling sugar, a pastry chef's version of glassmaking, for patrons to enjoy.

During live glass blowing demonstrations, visitors will also be able to purchase or commission custom work created by Master glassblower Chris Nordin. These are ideal pieces for gift giving to a special someone and for glass art collectors.

The "Holiday Glass Art & Ornament Extravaganza" follows a highly successful and well attended Glass Pumpkin Fest & Sale that was held in October.

Prices for the holiday sale will range from $10 to $500, to provide for unique gift giving and the opportunity to purchase Michigan made products. Several museum quality pieces produced by Furnace Design Studio, which is housed within the Glass Academy building, will also be available for viewing in a separate display area.
